Another important area where flight connectivity is less and trains can capitalize is the 2 night 1 day segment where effectively a day is lost anyway (since sleeping on trains is not actually a waste of time). However getting morning time arrival slots for newer trains is becoming impossible due to severe congestion. Thus the need to decongest by building satellite stations. Trains like KK, KSK, TN, SBC Raj still continue to command a reasonable end to end passenger service precisely for this reason. The longer travel increases, more propensity to go for AC classes thus IR benefits. I can connect with most of the things you mentioned - my feeling is that the sweet spot is in the ~ 8 hour overnight trains (positioned as travel + hotel) and in the 3-4 hour day trains. <br />Once again, thank you for writing this blog.
