I have personally known several students of state engineering colleges who have much better practical knowledge and motivation than fellow-IITians, and this would definitely give them a boost.

However, I think differences in course curricula and assessment methods between IITs and NITs could cause problems in the implementation. Besides, I am concerned about how the dearth of faculty will only be hit further with the increased numbers.Kumarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04209186192671293113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273139713770751485.post-57476837611173891942011-03-05T17:23:22.017+05:302011-03-05T17:23:22.017+05:30Suhas, you are right. The idea is to have addition...Suhas, you are right. The idea is to have additional students in the latter years. For example, if our capacity is 4000, then we can either have 1000 students per batch, which is the current model, or we can have 900 students in the 1st and 2nd year, and 1100 students in the 3rd and 4th year. So the number of students who get admission right after 12th reduce a bit, but the number of students who get IIT education and degree actually increase.Dheeraj Sanghihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06367519409840642182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273139713770751485.post-25889102231922153882011-03-05T17:19:56.705+05:302011-03-05T17:19:56.705+05:30Does this mean that number of students in second y...Does this mean that number of students in second year could be more than those in first year with this system?

SuhasSuhas S Nerurkarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01339661821966506400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273139713770751485.post-25713734666025955342011-03-05T10:30:56.975+05:302011-03-05T10:30:56.975+05:30That's a great idea professor. Some of which may be eccentric and may sound foolish as well.
As India our scales are different from US and that would mean that a simple copy paste may be a Band-Aid solution. At the same time, imitation is the fastest way of learning.
Good thought but implementation on the ground has to be fast and effective for this idea as well.Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00090882943967748486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273139713770751485.post-26921041120288494902011-03-05T09:06:44.498+05:302011-03-05T09:06:44.498+05:30@anji, As I said in the blog, NITs lose a few, but...@anji, As I said in the blog, NITs lose a few, but attract lot more, and a large number of students become highly motivated. To fill in the gap...I do not see anything negative. To fill in the gaps and give a pilot to this idea, we can create pyramid of connectivity. IITs connected to NITs or any other regional institutes. NITs connected to State colleges. It will have an effect on teaching learning process as well. Lately, we all are observing that lately in IITs and NITs the students once entered do not find much motivation and zeal to learn for initial two years. They gets activated only by third year possibly for placement and/or letter of reference. This structure may help rejuvenate them again to start learning to perform better as they might get a chance for their elevation.Gurranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15124900256904477661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273139713770751485.post-13528896172487245462011-03-05T01:18:10.050+05:302011-03-05T01:18:10.050+05:30Certainly the idea will improve the quality in IIT...Certainly the idea will improve the quality in IITs but but i personally fear that NITs will suffer losing thier brightest mind.
